Summary

The next chapter is titled “Richard, June 1958.” Richard is staying at the Jeters' house and says it is crowded there. He spends time at Ray's and takes Mildred along. In the next chapter,“Mildred,” they are at a race. Mildred's friend, Annamae, is surprised when Mildred knows what kind of engine is in the race car that Richard and his friends are racing. She anxiously waits to find out their time. The next chapter is “Richard.” Richard is disappointed that they did not win their heat.
