Point of View

"Love Me Back" by Merritt Tierce is a novel told from the perspective of the main character, Marie Young. The story is a narrative that she writes to her daughter in an effort to explain herself and her actions when Ana was young. Throughout the story, she explains how having a child affected her; how depression, drugs and alcohol affected her judgement with a myriad of sexual partners; and how she coped or was unable to cope with the lifestyle she was living.

Marie begins her story by describing her first job at The Olive Garden where Christopher Kendall teaches her the ins and outs of being a server. Marie's first hand account of this portion of her life includes her rise from virgin waitress - one who had never served before - to her position in The Restaurant as a fine dining server.
