Book 6, Chapter 9 Summary

The hobbits of the Shire release all the hobbits imprisoned by Lotho and Saruman, tear down the huge mill built for Ted Sandyman, and restore Bagshot Row to its former state. As well, Sam plants a mallorn tree to replace the party tree that was chopped down, and plants other trees throughout the Shire, putting a grain of Galadriel's earth on every tree in the hopes that it will help them grow. Then, with a little of Galadriel's earth left in the box, he throws it into the wind. However, it is not until spring that Sam learns that the trees are all fully-grown, the pipeweed and beer are excellent and almost all the children born that year have blonde hair. Eventually, Sam marries Rosie Cotton and they move into Bag.....
