Book 3, Chapter 9 Summary

Théoden follows Gandalf to meet Treebeard, taking his men with him, while Merry and Pippin set out a meal for Gimli, Aragorn and Legolas. As they sit and eat, the hobbits tell their friends how they were captured, how they escaped, and of their time with the Ents.

Eventually, Merry and Pippin describe the Ents' assault on Isengard. As they approached Isengard, they watched the army leave that was being sent to Helm's Deep. However, the Huorns seemed to follow the army while the Ents waited outside Isengard. Then, when Saruman's army was gone, the Ents attacked Isengard, smashed through the surrounding wall and ran toward the tower. In fact, the attack was so successful, Pippin wonders if Saruman's might was overestimated. However, Aragorn says that Saruman was great once and still.....
