Summary

After Aeneas' death, Ascanius becomes king of Latium. In the year after his death, Lavinia finds comfort socializing with Aeneas' friends, especially Achates, who is especially afflicted with grief over Aeneas' death. In the time that Lavinia spends with Achates, he tells her about the events that took place surrounding Aeneas' death. Ascanius becomes jealous of the favor that Lavinia receives from the Trojan captains, part of which, Lavinia believes, is fueled by suspicions of sexual promiscuity on her part. Lavinia says that this might have to do with the fact that Ascanius is secretly gay. In order to break up Lavinia's affiliation with the Trojan captains, he sends Achates away to govern Alba Longa.
