Chapter 28 Summary

Joan walks home, and takes a bath. As she soaks and reads the romance novel, the phone rings, but she refuses to answer. Shortly thereafter, Joan hears someone enter the house, and peeks through the bathroom keyhole to see a man she believes to be Paul. Upon exiting the bathroom, however, the man turns and she sees it is Fraser Buchanan. He informs her he knows her secret, and he takes her for a drink. Dressing seductively, Joan plans to feign admiration to gain information. Buchanan tells her over drinks he knows of her affair, and her double life as a romance author. He pulls out a bound leather book, and reads the names of other celebrities he is blackmailing. Joan plans to steal the notebook.

They agree Joan will give him twenty percent.....
