Summary

In Chapter 12, during Amelia’s meeting with the Commander of the Sûreté Academy and Gamache, she radiated an attitude that said “fuck off” (85). She did give Gamache a curt nod. Amelia claimed she did not recognize the packet of drugs, but Gamache thought her answer came too quickly to be innocent. Gamache’s heart sped up but he had already decided what had to be done and was determined to see it through. Amelia was breathing more rapidly, seeming to see the end as well. As Gamache leaned forward and looked into Amelia’s face, he noticed that her eyes were dilated.
