Summary

Arrah has nightmares of the serpent, missing children, and Rudjek with the eye of Re’mec. At her father’s shop, she receives an invitation to Rudjek’s coming of age ceremony. When she laments Arti’s plans, Oshhe tells her that the Vizier is just as cruel, but believes that children should not be judged by the sins of their parents. When she asks about the kidnappings, he says the first went missing at the start of the Blood Moon. The next morning, Arrah goes to the temple and follows the Hall of Orishas where all 14 (including an unnamed one) are carved as statues. Sukar informs her that no seer but Arti has seen the child snatcher. Another boy, Tam, tells Arrah about the Supreme Cataclysm that marked the beginning of the world, and Orishas crawled out...
