Summary

In Chapter 22, narrated by Gwen, Gwen wakes slowly and feels as if she has been drugged. When she realizes she is in a box she starts making noise and trying to rock the box. Two men open the box and give her another injection of drugs.

In Chapter 23, narrated by Lanny, Lanny tries to remember what happened when she regains consciousness in the van. She thinks of the way she stupidly ran in front of Kezia’s gun. She lies still so the man who kidnapped her will not realize she is awake. Lanny reminds herself that she is the child of two scary, powerful people and that she wants to live. The van is driving uphill so Lanny starts sliding backward, hoping the man will think it is just the momentum of the van moving her. Once she reaches the doors she...
