Chapters 1 and 2 Summary

In Chapter 1, Colie, Colie's mother, Kiki, and Kiki's assistant are standing on the train platform when the novel opens. Colie is going to spend the summer with her Aunt Mira while her mother is touring Europe for her fitness business. As Colie settles in for her train ride, she remembers her childhood, when Colie was a little girl and her mother was obese. Colie's entire life, she and her mom were obese and moved around from place to place—even living in their car at times. During their time living in North Carolina, both Kiki and Colie lose a lot of weight. Kiki becomes certified t teach aerobics classes and become so popular that it leads to a local fitness show.
