Section 11: Chapters 17 & 18 Summary

In Chapter 17, Gamal tells Juniper that Meroot is marrying a knight from Caerleon in December, and when Juniper visits Meroot the next day to congratulate her, she notices that Meroot now has a large, black dog that constantly growls at her. Meroot questions her about her time with Euny, but when she leaves the room, Juniper can feel that she is being watched as she examines a strange leather stick. Talking to Erlain later that afternoon, Juniper learns that her mother does suspect Meroot of cursing Castle Dore, though King Mark refuses to believe his sister would do such a thing. Juniper provides her mother with clearwater for protection and agrees to try to think of magic to help the kingdom.
