Charles

Charlie is one of the main characters of the book. He is as 13 year old boy who is picked on at school for being smart, having a good vocabulary, being liked by the teachers and making good grades. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and especially writing. He doesn't consider himself to be a particularly brave person but his courage is tested from the beginning of the book when the town trouble maker, Jasper Jones, comes to his window at night and asks for his help.

When Charlie sees that Jasper needs help moving the dead body of Laura Wishart, he immediately wants to get the authorities involved. However he ultimately helps Jasper because he knows that Jasper will be blamed for Laura's death no matter what. The reader is able to see Charlie come into his own as the book progresses.
