Summary

Part 3, Section 1 (pages 223 - 275) starts with Mark returning from his flight and realizing his house has been vandalized. As he steps into his house someone attacks him. Mark injures his hand in the process of defending himself and gets into his car, driving off to Edinburgh. He begins to envision his future, and what could happen to him. He reminisces about his break up with Katie - he had called it off after she had told him that Nel Abbott knew about their relationship. As he drives it becomes clear that Lena is trapped in the trunk. Lena was the attacker waiting in his house and when he had entered, her mother’s bracelet flew out of his bag. When Lena had seen the bracelet, she took scissors and started viciously attacking him.
