Point of View

The book is written in first person from the sole perspective of Neil White, a man who was sentenced to a term in federal prison after his business lost a lot of money and he “kited” checks to keep the losses secret for several months. Neil's memoir opens as he remembers his wife driving him to report to Carville prison. Over the course of the story, Neil talked about his faults and his fears, and these seem to indicate that he is an honest narrator who is telling the story as he remembers it. For example, Neil wrote about the fact that he had spent a lot of time on his appearance in order to show that he was a successful businessman. Once he was incarcerated in a place where cologne was contraband, Neil made a point to take lots of the sample cologne pages...
