Chapter 14 Summary
Pitt arrives at the party, which is held at Rondheim's huge mansion. Pitt is dressed in red velvet and continues his masquerade as a homosexual. Rondheim asks how the boat trip went that afternoon, and Pitt explains that a horrible explosion was heard in the fog. Tidi shows up about the time Pitt and Rondheim are discussing the explosion, and she neatly backs up Pitt's comments. As Tidi and Pitt work the room, Pitt realizes he is not welcome there. Tidi recognizes several of the world's wealthiest men in the crowd. Kirsti finds Pitt and Tidi and escorts them to the study, where the poetry reading is to take place. As the reading begins, Pitt falls asleep. He dreams of Hunnewell again and tries to save him in the dream where he was unable to in real life. When Pitt awakens, the poetry...
