Point of View

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore is a novel written entirely in the first person perspective of the main character, Number Four, also known as John Smith as well as a host of other aliases. It is important that the point of view is told from this character's perspective in that the story revolves around his importance to the eventual rescue of his home world, Lorien. The isolation and secrecy surrounding his existence on Earth are paramount to understanding the story, and could only be properly explained by the main character himself.

Most of the dialogue contained in this story reveals the reasons for the Loriens' arrival on Earth, and the manner in which other aliens called Mogadorians behave.
