Summary

Chapter VII opens up with the events that occur after the Witch’s death. With her gone, hordes of people come to her now empty house in search for her rumored treasures and riches. However, not a single person in the town is able to find anything hidden in her home. Eventually, Rigorito and his men are able to break down the locked attic door that Brando told them about. Instead of finding treasures and riches, Rigorito and his men only find the crumbling corpse of the Witch’s mother.

Rumors begin to circulate around the town claiming that Rigorito actually did find the money in the Witch’s house. Since no one has seen him since he searched the house, the townspeople think that he took the money, left town, and then killed all of his men. However, no...
