Summary

Chapter 27 begins with Nana, Belinda, and Amma shopping at a supermarket. Nana knows that something has happened between the two girls, and sends them each to fetch lists of items, telling them to meet up at a register in 15 minutes. As they go their separate ways, Belinda is careful to not touch Amma. Belinda watches the store employees, and notices when an officer shouts a distress call into a radio. Belinda hears Nana yelling, and Amma has made a mess in the aisle of laundry detergents. When Belinda arrives, Amma throws a bottle of toilet cleaner at her, and then slumps into Nana’s arms. Suddenly, Amma gets up and runs away.

The next night, in Chapter 28, Belinda mops the kitchen floor. She starts to cry, and then goes upstairs to Amma’s room. She tells Amma that they need to get back...
