Summary

Chapter 10 returns to Belinda, as Nana stands in her room looking at the clothes that Belinda has unpacked. Nana decides that the two of them must go shopping together. They walk along a hectic city street and Belinda is once again overwhelmed by the business of her surroundings. Once they arrive at Marks and Spencer, a clothing store, Nana holds up shirts to Belinda’s body, and determines whether they look right for her. Belinda sees a poster in the children’s department, and is reminded of Mary.

Chapter 11 starts with a phone call between Mary and Belinda, and Mary chatters away about Aunty and Uncle. When Mary asks about how Belinda is, she tells her that she has been making small progress with Amma. But when Mary presses her, she reveals that things are not actually much better.
