Chapter 7 Summary

While Jeremy is kidnapping Regina, his father is having dinner with Kari Dovell. The two remain platonic though they see each other socially. On this particular evening, Dr. Nyebern is brooding over Jeremy and begins to talk about his own actions, saying that he saw those sociopath tendencies in Jeremy and that he should have done something. Kari argues that Jeremy can't take responsibility for Jeremy's actions and then says what most people think - that Jeremy is dead. Nyebern says that Jeremy is alive and that it's "because of me." A short time later, Kari becomes obviously uncomfortable at the turn of the conversation and asks Nyebern to join her for dinner out. He suggests they throw some steaks on to cook instead and goes to the freeze to collect them, where he finds Morton Redlow's body. There's a note in his...
