Lionel can hardly walk by the time he finishes, and Edith helps him upstairs. He asks her to get his tie, and tells her she should get ready for bed. When she comes back, Lionel ties one end of his tie to her wrist and the other to the bed post. Then he put his arm around her and she felt safe.

Despite everything, Edith is unable to fall asleep. She wonders about the real reason for the tie, and whether Lionel trusts her. The rocking chair begins to move and she tells herself that it is just energy and kinetics like Lionel said. She kept repeating that to herself and yet deep down knew that someone was sitting there. The chair continues to rock back and forth.
