Part 2: Chapters 6-15 Summary

It is May 2, 2008 and Valerie has just woken up in the hospital. Valerie is unclear on what has happened, but her parents are visibly upset and the police are in the room. When the room clears, leaving Valerie temporarily alone with Frankie, he tells her about Nick's death.

Valerie remembers how Nick came to Garvin their freshman year and she began a flirtation with him in Algebra class. One day Valerie was having a hard time and began to make a list of people who were making her life difficult, a list she dubbed her hate list. Nick asked about it and thought it was pretty cool. Valerie also recalls her first visit to Nick's house and how he shared with her his love of Shakespeare.
