Summary

In Chapter 4, the astronauts aboard Aether are feeling increasingly restless. Sully thinks about her past and her estrangement from her family. She was married to her husband Jack for ten years, and they have been divorced for five. She recalls the different places they lived and a miscarriage they suffered before having their daughter Lucy, and she recalls five-year-old Lucy crying when she left for Houston to begin astronaut training. She remembers seeing Ivanov in Houston, happily dining with his own family. On the ship, Ivanov and Tal get into an argument that almost comes to blows, and Sully notes that Tal is consumed with playing a video game because he used to play it with sons. Devi climbs into Sully's bunk in tears and tells her she is worried she will never see her family again. As captain, Harper does his best...
