Summary

After they leave the principal’s office, Kim asks Curt why he did what he had for her. He tells her, simply, that he did see her pick up the paper. The two return to the classroom, and Kim begins the test, aiming to prove that she did not need the cheat sheet to do well on the exam. The next day, Tammy gives Kim a card thanking her for keeping her secret, but after that Tammy avoids Kim. Kim’s science teacher returns the exam. Kim has done well, and the science teacher tells her that they are going to “give you the benefit of the doubt” (161).

At home, the Changs finally get a phone. However, since Ma still has learned very little English, Kim is left to deal with all their interactions with the outside world. They still hope a wrecking ball...
