Chapter 1 Summary

Russel Middlebrook is in the boys' locker room. He's trying not to look too closely at all of the naked boys around him because he's gay. He's gay but nobody knows he's gay. When one of the popular boys, Kevin Land asks to borrow his shampoo and makes a joke about his butt, Russel has to think quick so he can react like a straight guy would.

Later, in the lunch room, Russel is sitting with his best friends, Gunnar and Min, when they witness some of the popular guys fling their food at Brian Bund. Brian just gets up from his chair and leaves. Russel knows that if his sexuality gets out, that he could be in Brian Bund's place.
