Prologue and Part 1: Chapters 1-2 Summary

This novel is a prequel to Flowers in the Attic, the first novel in the Dollanganger series. This novel tells the story of Olivia Winfield Foxworth, the unnamed grandmother who locks her four grandchildren in a secluded second story bedroom of her home, Foxworth Hall, for more than three years.

The prologue is simply a letter written by Olivia Winfield Foxworth informing her readers that she has written this story to be opened twenty years after her death in order to explain her side of the story told by her grandchildren.
