Point of View

The story is narrated in the first person and the past tense by Fox 8, the protagonist. As is revealed at the end of the story, the text of the story is actually a letter that Fox 8 is writing to humanity. Thus, as Fox 8 narrates the recent events of his life, he is necessarily doing so in a retrospective manner. Nonetheless, the small chronological distance between Fox 8 and these events does not seem to diminish the emotional impact of the events in Fox 8’s recollection. Fox 8 is driven in his mission by a sense of deep trauma and loss. He has lost his home, friends, and previous sense of security, and his perspective is shaped by those tragedies.
