Seldon's Plan

Hari Seldon created a plan, called Seldon's plan of psychohistory. The idea is that the future can be predicted using a mathematical formula and known facts. While the actions of a single individual cannot be predicted, the actions and events of mass society can. The problem with Seldon's plan is that it doesn't take into account an individual capable of significant impact on society nor major changes - new weapons, for example. Seldon accurately predicted four of five crises to be faced by the Foundation but missed the final crisis, predicting that it would be an uprising of the Traders rather than a war waged by the Mule.
