Summary

Ada walks away from the house, and she meets with Samson, who drove his truck into the woods. Together, they ride in the truck to the river. Ada talks with Samson about the things that Olivia has said about him. Samson responds by saying that Olivia is lying, and that she has always been dishonest and mentally ill. However, Samson gives no specifics. Ada returns to the house. She and Father do not speak of Samson. Instead, Father indicates some tree roots growing in the Ground and says that they will need to redirect the roots. As they inspect the area, Ada notices branches that resemble bones. She asks Father about them, and he admits that they are from Father’s failed attempts to make a child, before he successfully made Ada. Ada knew Father had had previous attempts, but she suddenly feels disturbed...
