Summary

The boy took flight on his carpet once more. He flew high into the air and observed the roofs of the small houses below. He flew until he was surrounded by the “skyblue heavenblue blue” (85). The boy considered the thought of never returning home, which frightened him, so he began to long for the safety of the grass below.

The boy began to feel dizzy, so he closed his eyes and felt himself falling. When he opened his eyes, he was floating close to the ground. When the boy returned home, he felt ill. His voyages had given him a fever. For the next few days, the boy was in a drowsy stupor. When he recovered, his mother took him to the mall to buy some school uniforms, because summer was ending.

A significant number of days later, the boy found his dusty...
