Summary

This section highlights the seventh and eighth days of events in the narrative. Pages 117 – 138 detail the events of day seven. Because of Fish Girl’s late night excursion the previous day, she is too exhausted to do her job at the aquarium. However, Octopus nudges Fish Girl, and eventually convinces Fish Girl that she must “keep him (Neptune) happy” (117). Eventually, Livia arrives at the aquarium, and Fish Girl shows Livia her new shirt. Livia tries to take a picture of her, but Fish Girl dives into the water.

After a long conversation between Fish Girl and Livia, Livia leaves, and Fish Girl laments the fact that Livia can “come and go whenever she wants” (121). Fish Girl resigns herself to doing her job so that Neptune will leave her alone. When the customers leave, Neptune praises Fish Girl for doing such a good job...
