Summary

In Chapter 37, Malu takes the stage and begins to talk, capturing the attention of those who are outside the school. There are activities set up, including food, and people are beginning to mill about because the talent show is now over. Malu identifies her group as the Co-Co's and explains that they did not earn a place in the talent show because they were too loud. She expresses her belief that Jose Guadalupe Posada, the founder of their school, exhibited traits embraced by those who live the punk lifestyle. She talks about what she learned from a book about him, then introduces the band with their slogan, "This is not your abuela's music" (296).
