Archmaester Gyldayn of the Citadel of Oldtown

Archmaester Gyldayn is the narrator of the novel. While mostly removed from the text and operating almost like an omniscient third, his personality does occasionally shape the direction and tone of the histories. He is invested in showing all sides of the story and offering all possible scenarios, and does not refrain from including elements of the supernatural in his accounts, which another historian of such achievement might have left out altogether.
