Summary

9. Joy describes how, during the time when she was on her own and working at the Stop and Shop, she went to the museum where Mr. and Mrs. Carroll worked to see if she could get answers to some of her questions about their son, and about the empty space in her memory related to her last year in their home. She describes being unable to find the Carrolls, wonders why she did not just go straight to their house (which she remembered), and imagining herself in a film she saw while at the museum, asking questions to which the woman in the film had no answers.
