Book 2: Chapter 3 Summary

Elrond has sent out scouts in all directions to scour the lands for news of the Black Riders and any information they could gather about the enemy. It will be some time before they can leave on their quest as the where a bouts of the Riders must be obtained before they dare leave Rivendell. Gandalf tells Frodo that he will be joining Frodo on his journey.

Two months pass before Elrond's scouts return with news. No one has found any evidence that the Black Riders remain close by. There seems to be no news of the enemy anywhere. They did, however, find the Riders horses, which were drowned in the flood in the Ford. It is believed that without their horses to aid them, the Ringwraiths have returned to Mordor.
