Book 2: Chapter 1 Summary

When Frodo wakes, he finds himself lying in a comfortable bed. Frodo wonders out loud where he is and a voice answers him that he is in the House of Elrond and it is October the 24th. Frodo turns to see Gandalf sitting beside him in a chair and Frodo is very happy to see his friend the Wizard. Gandalf chastises him and tells him that he is lucky to be alive at all considering all the foolish things he has done over the course of the journey. Frodo's mind goes over the many mistakes they had made along the way, such as the shortcut through the Old Forest, his slipping the Ring on at the Prancing Pony, and his again using it on Weathertop and causing his own near death.
