Chapters 24-27 Summary

Chapter 24. Angie searches the inside of the elevator and sees an escape hatch in the ceiling. Angie hits the hatch with the tip of her crutch until it finally comes loose. Although she says that it is a bad idea and will make Mrs. Bittner angry, Laura gives Angie a boost up through the escape hatch. The elevator doors to the third floor are waist high, and Angie manages to pry them open. Laura begs her not to leave her alone, but Angie promises that she will be back for her as quickly as she can, and that if Mrs. Bittner comes back Laura should hit her with Angie's crutch. Angie then pulls herself up into the third floor hallway.
