Bazarov returns home to the joy of his parents who had not expected to see their son again so soon. Bazarov deflects the attentions from his parents in favor of his scientific experiments but soon tires of the constant work and begins to help his father with patients. One day a man arrives at the house with his brother who is dying from typhus. Unfortunately the man's condition is in the last stages and there is nothing to be done.
