Chapters 22, 23 and 24 Summary

Arkady and Bazarov leave Bazarov's parents' home under the pretense of returning to Arkady's home to retrieve Bazarov's medical instruments but when their carriage driver pauses at the dead end of the road, the two young men briefly discuss their options. Turning left would take the young men back to Anna and Katya and turning right would lead them to Nikolai's farm. Bazarov lets the decision to Arkady who instructs the driver to turn left.

Upon arriving at Nikolskoe, Arkady and Bazarov are coolly received by Anna and Katya feigns illness and does not come out of her room. Arkady and Bazarov stay only four hours and Anna seems pleased to see them leave. Arkady and Bazarov arrive at Nikolai's farm the next evening and their reception is warm and welcoming,.....
