Chapters 1-3 Summary

The book opens with a letter written by Heaven Casteel to her father, referred to as "Pa." Heaven tells her father she thinks it is time to ask for forgiveness and also to forgive. Heaven tells her father that she is getting married and she wants him to walk her down the aisle. Heaven also says it is time that they develop the kind of relationship of which she has always dreamed.

In Chapter 1, spring has arrived in the Willies. The weather has changed drastically and it almost feels like summer. The main character, Heaven Leigh Casteel, thinks about life in her grandfather's cabin and how the promise of spring helps to wash away some of the tragedy she has faced recently, including the death of her fiancé, Troy, and the death of her brother, Tom.
