Part 2: The Sieve and the Sand Summary

The beginning of Part 2 finds the Montag's sitting in their hall with Guy searching the books before him, one by one, for meaning and some connection to Clarisse, while Mildred continually glances longingly into her parlor at her dead TV walls.

Guy and Mildred read all afternoon. They hear a noise outside and they both stay still to try to identify the source of the sound. Guy recognizes, at once, that the sounds are coming from the Hound from his firehouse. He is alarmed at this, Mildred, not understanding the significance is not.
