Chapters 7-8 Summary

In chapter seven, Daniel calls Lucas and tells him he has decided to go to the press about Loverboy, but that he cannot get the release ready until the following day. Lucas worries that this will not be soon enough. When Daniel hangs up, Lucas calls Elle's contact at the university, but this man directs him to Dr. Larry Merriam. When Lucas visits Merriam, a pediatric oncologist with the university, he learns that Merriam and Bekker worked together in an effort to find a way to handle death with their patients a little easier for the patient and their families. Merriam tells Lucas that the nurses on the ward call Bekker Dr. Death because of the joy he appears to show each time a patient dies. Merriam also confesses that he believes Bekker sped along the deaths of perhaps two cancer...
