Chapters 4-6 Summary

In chapter four, Bekker can feel the animosity of Stephanie's family at the funeral, especially from Del. As he sits through the ceremony, Bekker notices two cops watching him from the back. One of them Bekker recognizes as the cop investigating Stephanie's murder. The other he does not know, but he admires his expensive suit. Lucas thinks Bekker looks wooden and unnatural, unaware that it is PCP causing him to appear that way. Lucas spends the rest of the day putting the word out on his network of snitches, hoping to find the person Bekker hired to do the killing. Back at the office, Lucas learns Loverboy, the cop's nickname for Stephanie's lover and possible witness to her death, has sent them a note. The note describes the attack and the attacker.
