Summary

In the prologue called “First,” Evvie packed her car and prepared to leave her husband. She received a call from the hospital. Her husband Tim had been in a car accident and was in the emergency room. He died while Evvie was on her way to the hospital.

The first section, called “Fall,” begins with Chapter 1. Evvie sat in the dark in the apartment connected to her house and dreamed about Tim being mad at her for leaving and causing his death. She felt guilty that almost a year had passed since Tim’s death and she did not miss him. In Chapter 2, Evvie met with her best friend Andy for their weekly Saturday breakfast at the Compass Cafe.
