Chapter 9

Pages 158-163: Nikki and Jason lie in bed together, reading through the widows' stories and reenacting the steamiest scenes. She and Jason start making up their own story but his phone rings and interrupts them. This has happened before, the phone calls leaving Jason stressed and tired each time. Nikki tries not to worry and busies herself making breakfast. Jason says it was work, and the two chat briefly until his phone rings again and he takes the call. This time, Jason's reassuring smile falls flat. The two eat in silence, Nikki beginning to question where their relationship is headed, and wondering what is really going on with these phone calls and if she has done something wrong.

Pages 163-167: Garry and Viktor, the kitchen workers at the bar, continue to give Nikki a hard time about her relationship to Sam...
