One of the leading cities on Discworld, Ankh-Morpork is located on the coast of the Rim Ocean, at the outlet of the Ankh River, which flows from the Ramtop Mountains. Ankh-Morpork is home to Unseen University, which protagonist Esk Smith is intent on making coeducational. She and Granny Weatherwax take up residence in The Shades, "the abode of discredited gods and unlicenced thieves, ladies of the night and peddlers in exotic goods, alchemists of the mind and strolling mummers; in short, all the grease on civilization's axle." Ankh-Morpork smells of incense, grain, spices, beer, and thousands of people contributing to primitive sewers. Major sites include the docks, bridges, souks, casbahs, and streets lined with temples. The city floods during the great storm at the end of the novel, washing out to sea the large population.....
