Jim helps the men unpack the canisters of food. He finds his way back to his old room. Jim notices the scent of Mrs. Vincent in the room and stretches out on her bed. He imagines he must have looked like a beast in a kennel and no wonder Mrs. Vincent was irritated by him and wished him dead.
