Part 3, Chapter 35 Summary

Later in the day Jim eats another meal thinking on the news he has just read. He wonders about his parent's condition and smiles at the thought of his mother and her response to the Spam. As Jim is about to start his journey back to Shanghai six Chinese Communist solders come into the clearing. They pay him no mind but Jim is afraid they might shoot him for the cigarettes before he can tell them he once considered becoming a Communist. Jim looks for the Japanese pilot to warn him about the Communist soldiers who would kill him. At this point Jim decides not to walk to Shanghai and decides instead to return to Lunghua and the British men who had shot Kimura. Jim imagines they will want him for.....
