Part 2, Chapter 24 Summary

Dr. Ransom comes to find Jim after the raid, glad he is alive. He is concerned the Japanese will harm Jim and think he tried to signal the planes during the raid. The Japanese retaliate for the American air raid by breaking out the glass in the buildings, leaving them open to exposure come winter. Jim and Dr. Ransom discuss where the Americans might land in their invasion. Dr. Ransom reminds Jim of his earlier belief that the Japanese are the bravest soldiers in the world. Jim now thinks war has nothing to do with bravery. But two years ago he needed to look at the war in this way and figured that the Japanese were on the top, the Chinese on the bottom, with the British somewhere in between. Now.....
