Chapter 14 Summary

Reacher tells Alice to look at Sloop's wounds. The bullet holes are about three inches apart and are clean, meaning that they are not contact wounds. There is also no burn rim and even from a foot or more away, there would at least be gunpowder residue, but there is none. The pathologist's report confirms the shooter was eight feet six inches away. Hack isn't pleased with this new information and is unwilling to do much. Alice walks Reacher to the bus station where he buys a ticket for the next bus. He actually gets on but changes his mind. He goes back to Alice's office and calls the Abilene police department telling them where to find the body of Sloop's missing lawyer, based solely on how he would have done it, and then tells them he'll get back to them.
